What is hope

What is hope? Hope is often thought of as a wishy-washy desire for something, preferably good, to happen. In essence, it is a vain wish, that has little or no chance of ever really happening.

The truth about hope is that it is so much more than a vain wish or a wishy-washy desire for something to happen.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary hope is so much more. It is described as trust or “desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in fulfillment”.  Thus, when we hope , we have a desire and along with that desire we expect it to accomplished.

Hope becomes even stronger when we center it in faith in Jesus Christ.  Hope is described as an anchor (Hebrews 6:19). When hope is anchored in Christ, none of the storms of life can budge the ship.

As we anchor hope or trust in Christ, we can expect to see sunny skies eventually, even during stormy seas. As the psalmist says, when we trust in God we cannot be left alone(Psalms 34:22). And God will not leave us alone and adrift upon the seas of life.
