Christ’s Church

When Christ was on the earth, he provided the way for us to return to our Father in Heaven. He not only led the way, but he provided a path. Since Christ was perfect he was able to follow the path perfectly and return to Heavenly Father.(John 14:3,6)

Along this path we are faced with many obstacles that block our way. One of the many resources he gave us is an organization. This organization has all the keys to the locked gates, has the map, and has a guide who has direct communication with our Savior Jesus Christ. This organization is the church that Christ organized while he was on the Earth.

The Keys

When Christ was on the earth, he had authority from God to do certain things. The most notable things are the miracles that he performed. Christ had the power and authority to do so given to him from God.  Christ gave this same power and authority to his apostles.(Matthew 16:19, Mark 3:14)

This power and authority to act in the name of God is something that men cannot buy nor can one give it to themselves.(Hebrews 5:4) The apostles were given this power and through this power they were able to many wonderous things, including casting out devils.(Mark 16:17, Luke 9:1)

The apostles had the keys to open important gates through ordinances such as baptism and the gift of the holy ghost. These gates are necessary to go through to return to our Heavenly Father, but can only be opened with the proper authority or keys to do so. The apostles had these keys given to them by Christ.

The Map

Christ showed us the way to return to our Heavenly Father. He gave us basic principles or a map to show us the way to live our lives. These principles are as follows:

The Guide

Christ is the head guide and he will always lead us. Since Christ is not on the earth any more, a temporal guide was called to lead the people. This guide is very aware of the obstacles that lie in our path and gives us warning of these obstacles. Since this guide is in direct communication with Christ, he can give us specific instructions that will help us overcome the obstacles in our path.

Before and after Christ, prophets had been called to lead the people.( Amos 3:7) After Christ’s death, Peter was the prophet and the leader of the church Christ had organized. (Matthew 16:18) Christ established the pattern by which His church would be set up and organized.(Luke 1:70, Ephesians 2:20, Ephesians 4:11-14)
