Where do I come from?

The basic question of all humanity: Did I exist before coming to this earth? It is the deepest human desire to have a link, to know that we are part of something so much greater than ourselves. The good news is that we do belong to something so much greater than we can ever achieve to be(Matthew 5:48, 3 Nephi 12:48).

Before we came to earth we lived with God. We are his spiritual sons and daughters(Romans 8:16, Acts 17:29. He is our Heavenly Father. He knew us then and he knows us now. When we lived in His presence we recognized that there was something different. He had a body of flesh and bone and we didn’t. In order to continue learning we had to gain a body.

Since he loved us so much he provided a way for us to attain a body. He created a world, a place where we could gain bodies and learn(1 Nephi 17:36). The only hitch is that when we came to earth, we would sin.  With sin we would not be able to return to live with Him again(1 Nephi 10:21, Alma 11:37, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Ephesians 5:5). To overcome this problem, a Savior was needed. One who would come to earth and take our sins upon him, so that we could return to our Heavenly Father(2 Nephi 31:4, Alma 34:8).

The one who was chosen was Jesus Christ. He agreed to the plan and was willing to give all the glory to our Heavenly Father.  Satan presented another plan. In his plan, we would not be able to make choices; we would all be forced to return to live with our Heavenly Father. In addition all the glory would belong to Satan.

At that point we chose to follow Jesus Christ. There was a third part who did not(Revelation 12:4, Doctrine & Covenants 29:36-38) . Since we chose to follow Jesus Christ, we were blessed to come to the earth and gain a body. Those who followed Satan, never recieved a body and are his angels today(Luke 10:18).

We choose to follow Jesus Christ once. Will we choose to follow him, while we are here on earth?(Joshua 24:15)
